Our School Outreach Coordinator will play an integral part in our skills team by inspiring, educating and informing young people about opportunities and pathways into STEM.

Reports to: Director of Delivery 

Salary Range: £26-30k depending on experience 

Term: Permanent

At Sunderland Software City (SSC) our vision is to improve the economy by creating digital tech opportunities and our mission is to make a difference by pushing boundaries.

We know that when it comes to digital and STEM, there is a skills gap in the region. Many individuals, including young people, are not aware of the number of employers that are recruiting on their doorsteps. This is accompanied with stigmas surrounding careers in STEM, affecting diversity and the aspirations of young people to enter those careers.

As part of our skills team, the School Outreach Coordinator will play an integral part in addressing these barriers by inspiring, educating and informing young people about opportunities and pathways into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths).

Collaboration sits at the heart of this. We are looking for someone who is passionate about connecting industry with education, to inspire and educate young people about career pathways into STEM & Digital Careers and help young people build meaningful connections with employers. The successful candidate will build and maintain close relationships with secondary school leaders including careers teams as well with local businesses.

This role is crucial to the successful delivery of SSC’s skills programme we are looking for someone with strong communication & interpersonal skills who is able to engage with a range of stakeholders including school leaders, industry representative and young people.

How you will contribute to our objectives

You will be expected to deliver the following responsibilities to help us deliver on our objectives:

 

  • Building on existing relationships and developing new connections with employers to raise awareness of our Skills Programme and ensure engagement

  • Working with school leaders and careers teams to develop a programme that compliments their current activities

  • Creating a robust plan to engage with young people and delivering a range of activities both in and out of a school setting designed to highlight technology career pathways, educational pathways and the skills and competencies required to help build successful working lives

  • Providing regular updates to the Project Manager and highlighting any risks to ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget

  • Experience of delivering a programme of activities for schools

  • Experience/Understanding of the technology sector

  • Contacts with North East technology employers

  • Contacts/Experience of working with secondary schools

  • An entrepreneurial approach to working
